Apple TV, iPod, Ping and Beyond

I think Apple just can’t stop creating entertaining devices.

Apple TV is the new gig in town. This device pack a wireless adapter with HDMI, LAN adapter, and an optical audio interface for you to hook it up. And it comes with its own power supply.

Streaming is the new way to watch TV now.

There’s a catch. It requires iTunes store to purchase TV show rentals which is around 99 cents. I am assuming that their research shows that they are targeting those people who want to be able to watch TV wherever they are and not be bothered by sitting on the couch in the living room or bedroom.

The new model is dramatically smaller than the old one — 1/4 of the size actually. It features 802.11n built in with HDMI, Ethernet, and optical audio on the backside. The power supply is even built-in. No more power bricks, people!

Customers “said the No. 1, 2 and 3 things they wanted are Hollywood movies and TV shows, whenever they want them,” Jobs said. What they don’t want, Jobs said, it to have to deal with synching content from a computer to a TV, or worrying about where to store such huge files.

Just like the iPod, it will be interesting if this will catch on this time after the 1st generation Apple TV did not seem to take off. It will cost $99 and Apple is starting to accept preorders.

I know Google has been wrestling with pay per view on TV devices. The black box has yet to be revealed.

Interestingly, the new iPod Touch comes with a camera now. So iPod is now like iPhone 4 but without the phone. With WiFi, it should allow you to be able to call another iPod Touch user, technically.

Flip it, and you’ll be able to do HD video recording. (That’s not funny, eh?). Bad joke.

I’ll talk about Ping, a social network for users on Apple’s iTune Store.

Anyway, I guess there’s something to wish for this Christmas. Sweety, are you reading this?
